First Entry of 2009

Here's an idea of how 2009 is going for me:
I just spent an hour writing an entry about how I haven't been able to write due to a recent apartment hunt
- and it was deleted.

Sadly, I don't have time to write the fun update I hoped for.

Here's the slapdash rundown:

-My roommate, Pink, and I are parting ways for a warmer more convenient to work locations.
Our heat hasn't worked in our rail road apartment which has made the place a wine tunnel of freezing misery the past month. The apartment is also 2 and a half avenues away from the train - which in the teen degree cold is getting unbearable to trek home to.

I've been booked on a lot of shows this month so the only blog I've updated was my show schedule -shameless link-plug-, I haven't even had a chance to update I Love TV More Than You either -link to un-updated blog-.

I've been spending my days working a ton at the office job.

My nights were spent apartment hunting in snow, sleet, and freezing temps. This was just about the most miserable time ever, but it ended with a place I think I'll be quite happy in.

There's a lot I could catch you up on:
-The crazy hunt for the apartment stories
-The new man in my life
-The fact that I haven't smoked a cigarette since March 15th

But I have to finish writing a sketch for the next Ultimate Experts show (email TheUltimateExperts@gmail.com for reservations for the February 13th 10pm show) .

It's a Valentine's Day theme, so I'm trying to write a sketch along those lines... and get to bed at decent hour lately so I don't catch the deadly cold that circulates amongst co-workers in my office.

So, I'll leave with this for now:

Pictures from The Move

Provided by J Longo

I wasn't kidding, I was exhausted during this move.

And even when we thought we were done, we weren't...
Here is when Pink took a moment to proclaim "This living room is sooo big!"

Pink and I made a wish from Fred's bone before we left.

And then I said good bye to our old apartment.

We're Home!

We handed over our keys, got our deposit back, and hugged our landlord goodbye.

Our new place is filled with stuff everywhere that I need to unpack, but I'm trying not to do too much cause the dust was overwhelming today. My allergies are so bad I had to stop a couple of times cause I was afraid I'd have an asthma attack
- I don't have asthma, I did a while ago though triggered by allergies, and it's likely to happen in situations as bad as it was today.
I actually inhaled a dust bunny the size of Giambi.

I'm once again exhausted but I finally feel somewhat accomplished.

I could not have done it without help from my friends.
My fellow Ultimate Expert, Raquel (writer of The Ugly Volvo) came all the way from Do-or-Die BedSty to help sort through my bedroom. She said it was worth it to see all the random belongings I own. "Notebook that says 'buy new notebook', scented tea lights, and a rubber alligator - of course."

My pal Longo also made quite the trek over from "The Slope"
He flew in at around 1pm and immediately started moving everything and anything he could. He was also handy for his documentary skills, taking pictures of several stages of the move so that we will always recall the madness of seeing the apartment empty.

Roommate Tom is now officially buddy Tom again. He had Anthony and Scott help move him out, and special guests his parents. Tom senior is probably one of my most favorite people to see. Even though I only spent about 10 minutes speaking with him he was absolutely hilarious.

"Hey Mr. M!"
"Oh hey, you remembered me?"
"Of course I would. You're my roommate's Dad!"
"I dunno. I'm kind of forgettable."
"I beg to differ, you're very memorable."
"Who? Me?"

Then, later as I was coughing my head off he went into a detailed explanation of how I needed to take my Flonase.

"Oh ya gotta get on that Flonase. It's great stuff. I was at the doctor and we were just having a visit and I told him I was having some congestion. Then he put me on that Flonase and I felt much better.

Well...actually, I told him about the sinus trouble and next thing I knew he had a tube with a camera on it up my nose fishing around -"
This is when Tom and his mother came in the room with the same mortified look that read, "Oh dear God what is he telling these poor people."

I'd tell you more, but I gotta unpack, paint my room, and get the living room ready for the Super Bowl.

Yeah, we're having people over in a place we just moved into for a Super Bowl party.
That's just how we roll.

Day 3, Morning

I passed out around 1 am last night with all four walls partially covered in green paint.
I still have a ton of work to do.
Pink finished up what she could last night, but this morning I awoke to find no more green paint left.

There will be a trip to Home Depot once everyone wakes up.

I'm going to keep painting the trim, which is brown until around 11, when I have to go back the old apartment, pack up the kitchen and get my furniture moved in - this will make painting a very difficult task.

My allergies suck and this cough is annoying. I am trying to stay positive, but honestly it feels like this move is never going to end, or end way too soon with not everything done right.

Hopefully, the green tea and the music will help lift my spirits.

Day 2, What Time is it?!

10:40 and I've been pluggin' along.
I got a lot done.

I'm exhausted.

Many Thanks to my pal Arthur who actually came all the way out to Astoria (It's really not that far from Manhattan.) and helped me move things, on a broken handcart, in the cold, pouring rain, for about 4 hours.

Time to paint.

While I do that, keep an eye on Jen Hubley's fashion week blog - always a fun read.

Day 2, Morning Movement

After taking NyQuil to stop the hacking cough, I slept quite well last night.
I woke up at 7am to unhook all the cable boxes, get the paint supplies, throw them into the Granny Cart and wheeled them down to the new apartment.
I then hurried to the new bakery across the street where I bought a ton of beverages with vitamin C and caffeine to help me through the day.

At 8:20 am the cable guy came in and went straight to work. As he hooked up the TVs and internet I began to paint my bedroom the green I've always wanted to have my bedroom.
I then realized I had no idea how to paint walls and watched this instructional video several times.

After the cable guy left I sat down and made an excel spreadsheet of all the crap I want to get done today around here and the other apartment. Then I took care of some emails I needed to send, gatted with some pals....
Now, I am once again stalling on getting a move on cause it's rainy, cold, and all together uninviting looking out.

Ugh, I can't wait till everyone's out of work and can help me. It's hard to rally when it's just you and all you really wanna do is take a nap.

Day 1, Afternoon/Evening Progress

Well, I was finally able to kick into gear and get packing done.
There's still more to do but I think I finally made a dent.
Unfortunately, the dent came at a cost - I couldn't go to the Brooklyn Hootenanny :(
It's probably for the better that I didn't go out tonight. I've got a cough that won't stop and my allergies are killing me.
I'm allergic to dust.
I found more dust than Carter has little Liver Pills.

I'm exhausted, but have to wait up for the roommates to get a TV over to the new apartment so the cable company has something to hook up - bright and early at 8am tomorrow...or at noon... anytime between 8am and noon I could have cable.

It's worth the wait though. On Sunday we'll have a painted, furnished apartment with a plasma TV and HD cable hook up so we can watch the Giants v. Patriots.

The Superbowl is something I'm totally pumped for this year, though I'm a little bummed that I have to be in early to work the next day. I hope my Monday morning meeting is full of fellow football fans, or at least American's that enjoy over budget commercials and beer.

Day 1, Morning Progress

So far I've gotten an egg sandwich and two boxes.

I'm procrastinating big time.

I started doing work even though I took the day off to pack.

I need to motivate!

Instead, I'm watching Sweet 16 on MTV and gatting with Lindsay:

Me: I'm watching Sweet 16 instead of packing.

Lindsay : That's just a bad idea all around.

Me: It really is. I hate these girls.

Lindsay: I think that's the point of that show.

Me: I want them to pack my apartment.

Lindsay: You should have enlisted sorority girls to pledge like 2 weeks ago. You could've made them do it.

Me: Oh man, where were you two weeks ago?
...Wanna rush Gamma Phi Funke?

Lindsay: The Funkiest Sorority on campus!!

Me: Yep. So, yeah, you want in? All you have to do is admit your fat and pack my apartment.

Sororities do shit like that, right?

Ok, it's almost noon. Time to get this party started.

Day 1 of Moving

I woke up at 7 am this morning, mostly cause Pink's alarm clock sounds like an apocalyptic siren.
I was hung over.
I did not intend to imbibe a lot of alcohol last night.

In fact, I wanted to get to bed early so I could start my day nice and early. Only problem with that is friends who buy you shots. I got home early, but I woke up with an urgent need to drink my weight in water and lay on the couch for two hours.

I'm now ready for my egg sandwich and I've got an action plan on how to tackle my day. I'm gonna do my best to get all my shit together in a nice, orderly, manner.

"My advice, just throw everything out," said roommate Tom to me last night.

"I have a lot of paper work though, I should sort that out."

"Fine, don't take my advice. But I'm telling you, throw it out."

"I'll probably just chuck it all in a bag."

"Ten bucks says it ends up getting thrown out."

I took off two days from work to pack, paint, and wait for the cable guy at my new place.

As I sit here all comfy on my couch with the kittens running around me and my eyes still a little sleepy, I'm wondering if it's possible to maybe put off the packing just a little longer...

I'd almost rather do my taxes right now.
Almost.

It's Official: I Hate Everything About Moving

Things I hate about moving:

  1. We saw the place we're moving into once. I am still not sure if my bed will fit in my room.
  2. I have to clean my current apartment. I hate cleaning.
  3. I have more clothes than I even knew about. Tackling my closet was hard, but I fear what's under my bed. Not monsters, more like it'll be the land of forgotten sweaters and legal documents.
  4. I wish I had a Dad to help me out with the move. I know it seems silly, but for some reason I feel like this is one of those moments a woman would need her father.
  5. Why do I have so many books? I'm going to have to start lifting heavier weights in order to make this move.
  6. There are so many things I need to worry about doing before, after and during the move that I can't even articulate them.
  7. It's like I'm divorcing roommate tom, we're going through mutual belongings; "Who gets the couch?" "I get Disco Mary!" "I want that TV stand." "Who's computer is it anyway?" It's a civil split, but still, weird to divide belongings.
  8. Everyday is now "My last -day at this apartment." I will have a whole new routine to follow now.
  9. I have to decide what I really want to keep. This is how I realize I'm a pack rat. I'm sitting there looking at a flyer from one of the first comedy shows I ever performed at going, "Is this sentimental or garbage?" for an hour.
  10. I keep telling people, "It's only three blocks away that we're moving!" and now I'm like, "Wow, I'm lugging all this shit for three blocks and up one flight of stairs. UGHHH!
I could go on, but basically, I just don't wanna clean and pack. I know that I could hire movers and they do it all. But um, I just pretty much cleared out my bank accounts to get the apartment, the only movers I could afford would probably do a worse job than I could do. Which, um, isn't saying much.

Now, back to packing/cleaning/bitching/crying/curling up in the fetal position and watching TV instead.
